Hey, great idea. I'll ask my dentist to let me bring my dog next time.
She is the twin of yours. Will be 1 year old tomorrow and thinks she is a rottweiler not a Havanese.

One of the perks of living the abundant life is being able to have things your way, to a large extent. Rules are for those who live at or below the subsistence level. The Free Clinic might treat you, but the dog would need to wait in the car or the alley. Sharon's dog not only gets to accompany her into the dental office, but probably has its own personal shopper and gets its own seat on the private jet. You go girl!!

This photo screams out..

'TAKE CARE OF ME, WARM TO ME, I've just been through an ordeal..
and YOU OWE it to me, to be GIVING!'

This is the real underlying emotional message!

Actually, my first impression was that Sharon was on a first class flight somewhere and had just eaten and was allowed the dog on board.

The extra leg space with ultra super high tech entertainment gadgets on the wall are not usually seen by the 'economy herd'.

I liked all the answers! Great ideas in there.

For me I think the message is - there is no one answer. People will look at this and have different emotions. Cute dog, nice lady, sympathy for being at the dentist. What will usually drive or influence their emotional state is the message a marketer gives - namely the text to accompany the image.
Picture may paint 1000 words (lot of words!) but a marketing message will drive home what you want your audience to think.

Caption - "Dogkind are tired of being stereotyped! So yet another test to compare a dog's breath to that of a human"
All the best Glenn

The best part of this is the actual email that invites the recipient to guess and the copy that went along with it. That was great. The picture itself does not send a strong emotional message to me because it is not crystal clear in an instant what is happening in the photo, not to mention it is a bit blurry. The emotional message does not come thru clean and clear in a micro second, and a micro second is all you get these days. The emotional component may appear more clear to Glen because it is his wife and he already knows the back story. My two cents, great lead-in that proved curiosity and put the reader in the driver seat.

Dogs are natural born empathizers; good marketers develop it synthetically; great marketers make it seem natural. Am I saying great marketers are "going to the dogs"?, no, but if they can give their prospects the same comfort that the dog in Sharon's lap, they'll succeed hands down.

She is trying to overcome the feeling of pain by associating herself with the joy of playing her pet. I can say it's an example of mental conditioning.

The emotional message is trust. It is not simple trust but the type of trust that is at the core of human emotions; Trust that can be felt at the core of your being. It is stated implicitly (via endorsement of the dentist) and heavily reinforced with the photograph of the smiling, relaxed patient with man's best friend and protector on her lap It is show-and-tell and the picture does the bulk of the heavy lifting. Men are hard wired to protect their family. Yet, the endorser sends his spouse off to a dangerous (emotionally) and frightening situation with the peace of mind needed to continue tilling the fields. Very few additional words are needed to convey the message. It is delivered succinctly and it is emotionally charged. A picture truly can be worth a thousand words. Bravo!
