Coming up with any kind of estimate..with Google's tools is especially hard.
A great example of a weighted average.
But here is the problem.
The total traffic represents Google Search, Search Partners and Display network.

For simplicity:
10 positions in Adwords.
10 positions in Organic
(Don't even get me started on the 10 pack, and universal search)
(or the fact that above the fold placements get more clicks)

You really have a only 1/20 chance of getting the click.
If the user clicks at all!

If you've found a magic formula around this I'm all ears.

Hi Glenn,

Great videos!

Was wondering why you added up the volume for the global monthly search volume instead of the local search volume.

The global monthly search volume includes traffic from all countries and languages. Since you specified your language and countries, I would have thought that you'd be adding up the local search volume.

Can you clarify?

Thanks again for sharing your insights.

Hi Glenn,
a simple video but I made a huge discovery for me: knowing how to extract all the data from Keyword Sugestion Tool, including search volumes per keyword. That alone will safe me hours of work!

Thank you.
Keep the good work

Hi Glenn,

Just curious as to why you are using the Yahoo bid price data in your second video - won't this skew the results - as bid prices are usually more expensive in Google?

Google actually publish their bid prices in the same tool as your first video. They aren't always very accurate but for the purposes of comparing a few different markets, the prices are a good guide.

To see the bid prices, go to the Keyword Tool, then in the drop-down box called "Choose columns to be displayed", select "Show Estimated Avg. CPC".

I also select "Show Estimated Ad Position" which shows you what the Estimated Avg. CPC relates to (default is positions 1-3).

@Nhys, just hold down the 'ctrl' key on your keyboard while selecting additional countries. This may be different for macs - I'm not sure.

Try our new toy directory for free.

I know I'm a serious newbie but I can't work out how to select more than one country at a time. Everything I try just ends up with one country. I so want to be able to follow your instructions because its so useful. These stupid little things just stump me!
